How do I convert WebM to MP3?

WebM is the open web-video container Google introduced in 2010 — a Matroska subset restricted to VP8/VP9/AV1 video with Vorbis or Opus audio. It is the format behind much of YouTube's delivery and most browser-based screen recording APIs (MediaRecorder outputs WebM in Chrome and Firefox). Converting WebM to MP3 discards the video and encodes the Opus or Vorbis track to universally playable MP3.
