The limit is per file. In a batch, each file is checked individually- Ten 9 MB files are fine for a guest; one 11 MB file is not.
What Fits in 10 MB, 50 MB, 200 MB?
Audio sizes vary enormously by format. 10 MB holds roughly 10 minutes of 128 kbps MP3, 4-5 minutes of high-bitrate M4A, about one minute of CD-quality WAV, or a short phone video clip. 50 MB comfortably covers an hour-long podcast MP3, a full FLAC track, or about five minutes of WAV. 200 MB handles complete lossless albums and most screen recordings, and 1 GB covers long-form video for audio extraction. Video files hit limits fastest- The video track you are about to throw away is most of the bytes.
My File Is Too Big - What Now?
Three options, in order of cost. First, shrink the source before uploading: trim a long recording down to the section you need, or export from your editor at a lower bitrate. If the oversized file is already an MP3, the compress tool or bitrate changer may get it under the line- Our guide on compressing MP3s explains which settings lose the least quality. Second, create a free account, which quintuples the limit to 50 MB in about a minute. Third, if you routinely work with big files, Premium or Premium Plus raise the ceiling to 200 MB and 1 GB.
Does the Limit Apply to the Output?
No- Only the upload is checked. Converting a 45 MB FLAC to a 320 kbps MP3 on a free account works even though you could not upload the resulting file pair anywhere as one unit; the output is simply whatever size the conversion produces. In practice MP3 output is almost always smaller than a lossless or video source, so if the file made it in, the result will come out fine.
